Privacy Policy — MatchMinder
App: MatchMinder — World Cup match reminders
1. Summary (plain language)
MatchMinder helps you follow football matches and get local reminders before kickoff. It is built offline-first:
- We (the app provider) do not run any account system and do not collect, store, or receive any personal information about you on our servers. There is no sign-up, no login, no name, no email, no contacts, and no precise location.
- Everything you choose in the app — which matches/teams you follow, your theme, time zone, and reminder lead time — is stored only on your device.
- The app shows ads via Google AdMob. Google's advertising SDK is a third party that does collect some data (see §4). That is the app's only third-party data flow.
2. Information stored on your device (not sent to us)
The app keeps a small amount of state in your device's local app storage (localStorage, keys prefixed mr.). This data stays on your device, is not transmitted to the app provider, and contains no personal information (no names, emails, accounts, device identifiers, or location):
| What | Example contents | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Followed matches/teams | match and team IDs only (e.g. match:wc2026-of-76) | know which reminders to schedule |
| Preferences | theme, time-zone name, reminder lead-time minutes, "show results" toggle | remember your settings |
| Reminder/"today" badge state | a date (the day you last viewed the badge) | clear the daily badge until midnight |
| Ad frequency state | timestamps, a counter, and a date | cap how often ads appear; never show an ad on the first open of the day |
| Ad-personalization choice | two true/false flags | remember your consent choice |
| Cached schedule | a copy of the public match feed | show the schedule offline |
You can clear all of it at any time by clearing the app's storage/data in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.
3. Notifications
Reminders are scheduled and fired locally by your device's operating system. The reminder content (teams, kickoff time) comes from the public schedule. We do not receive confirmation that a reminder fired, and notifications are not used to send you anything other than the reminders you set.
4. Ads (Google AdMob) — third-party data collection
MatchMinder displays ads using Google AdMob (Google's mobile ads SDK). When ads are served, Google — not the app provider — may collect and process data, in line with Google's own documented categories for AdMob, which can include:
- Device / advertising identifiers (e.g. the Android Advertising ID),
- App activity / interactions (ad views/clicks and related in-app events used to serve and measure ads),
- Approximate, IP-derived location and device/diagnostic information that Google's SDK and ad servers process as part of delivering ads.
Google may use this data to serve ads (personalized or non-personalized), measure performance, and prevent fraud, as a third-party controller under Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Your control over personalization. On first run the app shows a consent prompt. Ads default to non-personalized and remain non-personalized unless you explicitly allow personalized ads. Your reminders work either way. In the EEA/UK, a Google consent mechanism (User Messaging Platform) gathers your choice on first run and non-personalized ads are served unless you consent to personalized ads. You can revisit this choice at any time using the per-platform controls described in §8 (Your choices).
4a. iOS — Advertising Identifier (IDFA) & App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
On iOS, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may access the device Advertising Identifier (IDFA). Before any tracking that uses the IDFA, the app presents Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you select "Ask App Not to Track", the app serves non-personalized ads only and does not use the IDFA to track you across other apps and websites. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (toggle "Allow Apps to Request to Track", or the per-app switch for MatchMinder). This mirrors the Android Advertising-ID controls described in §4 and §8.
5. The schedule feed
To show up-to-date fixtures the app fetches a read-only public data file from our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) over HTTPS. The app sends no personal data in these requests — it is an ordinary file download. As with any web request, the hosting / content-delivery provider may process standard technical request metadata (such as IP address) in its own server logs per its policies; the app provider does not use this to identify you.
6. Children
MatchMinder is a general-audience sports app and is not directed to children.
7. Data sharing & selling
The app provider does not sell your data and does not share it with third parties, because the app provider does not collect it. The only third-party data flow is Google AdMob, described in §4, governed by Google's policies.
8. Your choices
- Personalized ads: choose non-personalized (default) or personalized in the consent prompt. To revisit your choice later:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" (or turn off tracking for MatchMinder specifically); denying ATT results in non-personalized ads only.
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalisation"; in-app, the CMP consent choice can be revisited where surfaced.
- Reset advertising ID / opt out: you can reset or limit your Advertising ID in your device's system settings (Google → Ads).
- Delete local data: clear the app's storage or uninstall the app.
